Review by Tom Gilbert
Now here is something different. Cheap
Ways To… is a new book (Relevant Books)
utilizing four authors and giving you financial advice
with a twist. It’s not really about stock investments
or even budgeting. It’s more about looking at the
way we live and finding contentment by better management
of our possessions, proper spending and making the most
of what we already possess.
That reminds me of a great quote I heard somewhere: “I
am not entitled to anything more in life until I am
grateful for what I already have.”
The collaboration between Jason Boyett, Margaret Feinberg,
Josh Hatcher and Katie Meier gives the reader insight
from four individuals with a common goal. That goal
is teaching readers that you neither have to be miserly
nor extravagant with money to enjoy life. Sure, we’ve
heard this before, but how many really believe it? Better
yet, do you have ideas on how to stretch your dollar
without a pained expression?
The book is both practical and fun. From the recycled-paper
and economy look of the trade paperback format to the
delightful tips found inside I discovered, to my surprise,
that reading about how to live within my means is not
a terrible prospect. A hard lesson to learn for anyone
ingrained with the “spend-and-conquer” mentality
of Western consumerism.
You can be socially conscious and still entertain friends.
You can go on dates and vacations without melting your
credit plastic. You can learn, earn, advise, recycle,
help others, buy smarter, save more and find happiness
all at the same time. Who would have thought it?
If you want to learn more about fiscal responsibility without
being preached at and if you want to discover some valuable
tips on living expenses then grab a copy (wait…I
mean purchase it).
