LIVING THE SOLUTION WITH DAILY INSPIRATION
Unless a person submits to this original creation—the "wind hovering over the water' creation, the invisible moving the visible, a baptism into a new life—it's not possible to enter God's kingdom. (John 3:5 — The Message)

This original creation—the “wind hovering over the water—this is the term used in Genesis to describe the beginning of creation. “The earth was empty, a formless mass cloaked in darkness. And the Spirit of God was hovering over its surface.” (Genesis 1:2) What was Jesus getting at? Here in this verse we have the ultimate purpose of the cross and Jesus’ death—to put us back to the time before the “fall”, before Adam’s and Eve’s bad choice.

In his book, The Normal Christian Life, Watchman Nee presents the idea that Adam and Eve were created perfectly, but they were not yet perfected. Perfection would come when they made their choice to either follow after the knowledge of good and evil or to submit to life in God. As we all know they chose the knowledge of good and evil. After that the rest of mankind had no choice; we were bound to a life in pursuit of this knowledge and the exultation of self. This was the sin that needed redeeming, that needed restitution. This restitution, however, did not make us believers. Jesus died for everyone’s sins, all people for all time are forgiven, but not everyone is a believer. This restitution is not the end but a means to the end. It gives us the same choice that Adam and Eve had. It is up to us whether or not we will submit our lives to the “wind hovering over the water”, the living Spirit of God. When we choose to do that we are then perfected; we complete what God created. That is why Jesus says without this you cannot enter God’s kingdom. To do so you must be submitted to the King and give control over to Him, total control.

This does not take away from the cross and Jesus’ death. It actually makes it more important. Because of his death we now can chose life, we can now submit to the original creation—the “wind hovering over the water”, the Living Spirit of God.

Live intentionally, purposely, free and with passion,

Pete Reinbold
