LIVING THE SOLUTION WITH DAILY INSPIRATION
A soldier on duty doesn't get caught up in making deals at the marketplace. He concentrates on carrying out orders. An athlete who refuses to play by the rules will never get anywhere. It's the diligent farmer who gets the produce. Think it over. God will make it all plain. (2 Timothy 2:4-7 — The Message)

Focus, focus, focus—that is what sets apart those who excel in their field and the rest of us. There are tens of thousands of people who play tennis but just a handful who really excel. In any field of endeavor there are those who stand out above the crowd. Yes, there is some talent involved, but talent alone will not make you the best nor will all the work in the world make you the best either if you have no talent. You must find your passion and talent (the two usually go together) and then focus on developing that talent and pursuing that passion. For example, Larry Bird said of himself that when it came to talent he was just an average player, but that he worked harder than the other players. Every year after the Boston Celtic’s season was over, whether they made it to the finals or not, whether they won the finals or not, Larry would be back in the gym the very next week and all through the summer working on his game. He kept this discipline up, trying to improve his skills. As a result this average talented basketball player was one of the best in the game. He kept his eye on the goal.

We all are given talent, desire and passion. We must discover our God-given talent and desire and pursue them with everything we have. We must do the same with our faith. What we will find out is when we are pursuing and doing that which God has gifted and given us a passion for we will all be doing for Him the very thing He created us do to.

Paul is warning Timothy to be careful and to not get distracted. We can become distracted not only by the things of this world, but by the things that might wound and hurt us. Both can keep us from doing what God created us to do. Be on guard against the lures of pleasures and ease of life, and the hurtful things that others say and do to us that tear us down and discourage us from pursuing our dreams.

Stay focused, stay vigilant, keep your eye on the goal and on the passion God has given you, and never give up, never surrender!

Live intentionally, purposely, free and with passion,

Pete Reinbold
