| LIVING THE
SOLUTION WITH DAILY INSPIRATION |
Don't be
naive. There are difficult times ahead. As the end
approaches, people are going to be self-absorbed, money-hungry,
self-promoting, stuck-up, profane, contemptuous of
parents, crude, coarse, dog-eat-dog, unbending, slanderers,
impulsively wild, savage, cynical, treacherous, ruthless,
bloated windbags, addicted to lust, and allergic to
God. They'll make a show of religion, but behind the
scenes they're animals. (2 Timothy 3:1-5 — The Message)
Does this sound familiar, like a synopsis
of the American culture, even in the Church? What can
we glean from this passage today that the end is getting
closer? Now I know people have been saying that for years.
They were saying that 35 years ago when I was in school,
but nevertheless our culture is progressively become
more and more self-indulgent. Not only do you see it
in the attitude of people today but look at the things
we buy, look at our advertising, and look at our waist
lines. Here we are with gas at three dollars a gallon
and yet people are still buying SUVs, trucks and x-over
vehicles--we want big and more. Look at what our car
comes with today: air conditioning standard, power everything
standard, DVD movies and games systems, and so on. Look
at how and what we eat and the result on our waist line
and health. We are the self-absorbed culture that Paul
was speaking of.
I know this does not sound like an uplifting thought,
but look at it this way. These are signs that the end
is near, and that soon we will be with Jesus. I don’t
know and I am not saying or suggesting that it will be
in our lifetime just that is it getting close.
So what are we to do in the meantime? Do what Jesus said;
love God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength.
Love others as you love yourself and as He has loved
you. Separate yourself from the world by the way you
live your life. Stand out by your grace, compassion,
giving and caring for others. Take care of yourself and
consider carefully what you buy, eat and your health.
Our lives are marked by our love for God, each other
and all people. It matters how we take care of what God
has given us, and that includes our bodies.
Our time is short. Be ready.
Live intentionally, purposely, free and with passion,
