LIVING THE SOLUTION WITH DAILY INSPIRATION
Remind the people to respect the government and be law-abiding, always ready to lend a helping hand. No insults, no fights. God's people should be bighearted and courteous. (Titus 3:1-2 — The Message)

Boy does this sound like the church that America knows? We have people bombing abortion clinics, publicly chastising our leaders, and breaking local building codes and fire laws, all in the name of “ministry” and “helping” others. Jesus made it clear to give to the government what is theirs and to God that which is His. We are to follow and obey our governments unless what they ask us to do is in direct violation of God’s laws (I am not aware of any such request as of yet made of the church).

We are instructed to pray for our leaders, that God would have influence over their hearts and choices. We shouldn’t verbally tear them down around the water fountain at work with our co-workers or friends at church. These actions do not reflect the heart of God—the heart of love. We are to love our leaders as we love ourselves, as we love our families and as God has loved us. He loves them and died for them as well as you. When the church rate of divorce is as high as the world’s, when the percentage of people who struggle with drugs, alcohol or pornography is the same as the world’s, when the church’s leaders are found to have sexual “indiscretions” in their lives just like our government leaders, we the church are in no position to be passing judgment on the world and our leaders. Remember Jesus said first remove the log from your own eye so you can see clearly to remove the speck from your friend’s eye. And even if we did not have all of these problems we still are not given the freedom by God to judge, ridicule and disobey our leaders.

We have an election coming up this year and no matter what the outcome I know about half of the people will not be happy. But we must remember that God says it is He who puts leaders into power and it is He who brings them down. Whoever we end up with, for whatever reason, will be who God wants in power at this time. They will be our leader even if we did not vote for them It will not be for us to question why but live and do as God asks, to “respect the government and be law-abiding, always ready to lend a helping hand. No insults, no fights. God's people should be bighearted and courteous.”

Live intentionally, purposely, free and with passion,

Pete Reinbold
