| LIVING THE
SOLUTION WITH DAILY INSPIRATION |
It was he
who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets,
some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and
teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service,
so that the body of Christ may be built up until we
all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of
the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the
whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians
4:11-13 — New International Version)
What is the role of a pastor or teacher
in the church? Is it to go out and tell the world about
Jesus, to go and pray with those who are sick or hurting,
to feed those who come to “hear” their message?
NO! Their job to is to equip and empower you to go out
and share the love of God with others, to pray with those
who are sick and hurting, and to teach and encourage you
to feed yourselves through your own time studying God’s
word and spending time with Him on a daily basis. It is
to set you free to go and do whatever it is that God has
placed on your heart to do. It is not to control the people,
to get them to do what they want them to do. That is what
is meant by maturity and the fullness of Christ. It is
we, the people who go to church each week, that are to
be the ones meeting and praying for the sick and telling
others about God and His love for them. It’s not
just up to the pastor. There is only one head to the church
and that is Christ; pastors and teachers are gifts and
servants to the church for her growth.
We have pastors and teachers and a few evangelists,
many who are maligned even by members of the church.
But where are the prophets and apostles? There is nothing
in this verse, or anywhere else in the Bible, that
would suggest that these two gifts were only for the
first century church. Where are those who are given
these gifts? The church needs you desperately.
Stop looking to the pastor to do all the work of the
ministry; it is not his job. It is yours. Go and do
what God created you to do and do it the only way you
can for that is what He created you for.
Live intentionally, purposely, free and with passion,
