| LIVING THE
SOLUTION WITH DAILY INSPIRATION |
For though
we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world
does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons
of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power
to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and
every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge
of God, and we take captive every thought to make it
obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 — New
International Version)
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when
the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your
ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around
your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in
place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness
that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to
all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you
can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God. (Ephesians 6:13-17 — New
International Version)
We are continuing with the spiritual
warfare and the myths about this warfare.
Myth #2:
What the early church called demonic activity we now
understand to be mental illness.
We have all heard the arguments: “There’s
no way this person’s problem is demonic; they
are a paranoid schizophrenic.” Just putting a
label on an observed behavior in no way establishes
the actual cause. What causes the problem? Is it neurological,
hormonal, a chemical imbalance or a combination of
all or any of these? Are these genetic or are they
brought on by stress or some event in one’s life?
And what if after many tests no physical cause is found?
We should not be surprised that the secular medical
world, limited to a natural worldview, can only try
to supply a natural explanation. Their explanations
come from a view point that does not acknowledge God,
the spiritual or supernatural. This does not mean that
they are wrong, just that they are incomplete. Many
times there is a physical basis for odd behavior, but
it cannot always be explained or dealt with in this
fashion.
Think about this; if all mental problems are physical
in nature then why was Jesus and His followers so successful
in casting out evil spirits and why were some many
who were “out of their minds” restored
to full health? If all mental illness could be explained
by the physical, Jesus and His followers should have
failed at every attempt to help someone in an altered
mental state.
Live intentionally, purposely, free and with passion,
