LIVING THE SOLUTION WITH DAILY INSPIRATION
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 — NIV)

So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. (James 4:7— The Message)

In this verse from James we are instructed to do something – resist the devil. Then we are given a promise – he will flee from you. But what happens if we do not take an active stand against the enemy? Is he required to flee from us?

Our Christian life is meant just to be that – life. Life is active, participatory, something we are meant to actively engage in, not something that we drift through. We are to read the Word of God daily and think about what we have read. We are to connect our hearts and minds with God’s daily by talking with Him and listening to what He would say to us. And we are to, when needed, take an active stance against our enemy. If we do not he is not required to leave us alone.

So what does it mean to “resist” the devil? We resist the enemy when we refuse to give in to the temptation that he lays before us. We resist when we verbally rebuke and bind his activity in our lives. (Keep in mind we can only do this with regard to our own lives and the life of someone asking for our help. We cannot do a “blanket” binding over a school or city). Sometimes we will need to be verbal in our resistance, speaking the Word and Truth of God to the enemy. We must remember that He cannot read our minds so just thinking it our heads will not make him go away; we must verbalize it. We resist him when we refuse to buy into or believe the lies he tells us about ourselves or others. We also resist him when we choose to embrace the truth of God and His Word. You will notice all of these things are active and aggressive actions, not passive and require that we be on our guard. Most of the attacks will not be major frontal assaults, they will be subtle and sly deceptions intended to lure us from the truth.

So be vigilant, be active and draw close to God. Resist the enemy and he will flee from you. You have God’s Word on it.

Live intentionally, purposely, free and with passion,

Pete Reinbold
