| LIVING THE
SOLUTION WITH DAILY INSPIRATION |
As the day
declined, the Twelve said, "Dismiss the crowd
so they can go to the farms or villages around here
and get a room for the night and a bite to eat. We're
out in the middle of nowhere." "You feed
them," Jesus said. They said, "We couldn't
scrape up more than five loaves of bread and a couple
of fish—unless, of course, you want us to go to town
ourselves and buy food for everybody." (There
were more than five thousand people in the crowd.)
But he went ahead and directed his disciples, "Sit
them down in groups of about fifty." They did
what he said, and soon had everyone seated. He took
the five loaves and two fish, lifted his face to heaven
in prayer, blessed, broke, and gave the bread and fish
to the disciples to hand out to the crowd. After the
people had all eaten their fill, twelve baskets of
leftovers were gathered up. (Luke 9:12-17 — The
Message)
“You feed them.” It sounds
like a coarse answer to a simple question or observation.
It almost sounds like Jesus is saying, “What, is
this my problem?” But Jesus was not being coarse.
Just prior to this event Jesus had blessed His follows
with His power. He had sent them to cast out evil spirits
and heal all who needed healing. They had the power within
them to meet the food needs of the people that were gathered.
Jesus knew this, but they did not. Jesus wanted them to
discover and know that they had the power. That is why
He said, “You feed them.” He wanted them to
learn something about themselves and the power He had given
them.
Things are not much different today. All who have given
their lives to God through Jesus and who have received
the Father’s gift of the Holy Spirit have the same
power and abilities in them that Jesus did. You think not?
Then why did Jesus say we would do more and greater things
than He did if we would not have His power? Today we are
a lot like His followers. We have been given all the power
we need and we do not know it, or we do not believe it,
or we do not understand it. But it matters not; the truth
is we have the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit and His power
living in us. It is a fact! The only question is whether
we are going to believe it and start living like it. We
live with, and put up with, far more than we need to because
we do not yet truly know who we are and what power we have.
We are children of the Living God upon whom He has bestowed
His power—power to do all that Jesus did and more.
Let’s start using the power that God has given us.
Let’s start doing things that He created us to do
and being the people He created us to be. Let’s start
to live in the knowledge of who we truly are and what we
truly have.
Live intentionally, purposely, free and with passion,
