LIVING THE SOLUTION WITH DAILY INSPIRATION
Don't love the world's ways. Don't love the world's goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity. (1 John 2:15-17 — The Message)

Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. (Luke 8:7 — NIV)

I have stated many times that being a follower of Christ is simple, but not easy. It is all about love, loving God, loving ourselves and loving others. John’s statements make it clear that not only is a life with God all about love, but life itself is all about love. Here’s the question—on what are you focusing and spending your love?

It might seem strange at first to see Luke 8:7 with this verse from John. But think about it. Maybe the thorns that Jesus spoke of are not just sinful pleasures of the world. They could just be everyday things that take up our time, energy, attention and distract us from the Father. The world offers many things that in and of themselves are not sinful, but if we let any of the good things take the place of God first in our hearts then we have lost. We should enjoy the things that God has given us, but we must never let them take the place of God. He must remain first and foremost in our hearts.

You know well enough not to let the sinful things of the world take hold in your life. Also be careful to not let the good things, the blessings of God, take His place in your heart. Don’t let the daily activity of life choke the life out of you. Make time to keep your heart connected with God.

Live intentionally, purposely, free and with passion,

Pete Reinbold
