Me
and My Gang
(Lyric Street Records)
I hope that the days come easy and
the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,
But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want
it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things
too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.
I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more than you take.
But more than anything, yeah, and more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want
it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things
too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

Since 2006 Rascal Flatts
have had an amazing amount of success as country music entertainers.
They have sold millions of records, won awards and received
a ton of airplay.
One of their most popular songs from the Me and
My Gang CD is My Wish.
This is a beautiful song on many levels. It’s got a great
melody and hook – if you are familiar with it you know
what I mean. This is a song many would belt out in the shower
or the car. It also has a powerful message.
We all have our dreams. To whomever this song is addressing
they wish for them many good things. They have a wish for big
dreams, worry little, regret nothing, help others and to never
give in. It’s not easy to persevere when doors close and
times are tough.
This song speaks of choices: choosing the right road in life,
the right partner (“the one that means the most to you”)
and faith in God. I think one of the best lines in the song
is that “you find God’s grace in every mistake”.
Think about that. We all make mistakes. To find the grace, the
blessing, the lesson in every mistake is powerful.
The songwriter recognizes the inherent difficulty in all this.
Who among us can have such great awareness more than rarely?
Those who can, and live that way, possess a higher consciousness
– as long as that consciousness arises from outside of
self-centeredness.

Life is not easy street. And it is not all trials
and tribulations. It’s more like a rollercoaster with
ups and downs. Living with love and faith expressed in action
will yield rewards. The rewards will not just be for your
own spiritual benefit. You will touch other people’s
lives in a positive way. Encourage and build others up. That
is the message of this song. When you cast your bread on the
water it ripples outward and feeds many, including those you
never even meet. That’s my wish for each of us.
