Opening Thoughts:
This is Holy Week. The high drama of Passover, the Cross and the Resurrection
was the culmination of Jesus’ ministry. The way we now live – the
Way – as followers of that teaching and participants in that ministry is
our path.
Last year I really thought I was going deeper into this
Paschal mystery. And, I was. But, I see a year later
that there is still so much more being revealed. This
is both exciting and scary. I find that my best learning
is by doing.
Peace and joy,
Tom Gilbert

The Outsiders
by Tom Gilbert
Did you ever have one of those uncomfortable youth experiences
when a group of kids would choose sides for a game? You know what I’m
talking about here: all the best or most popular kids would be picked
first. If you were not part of that elite group then the moments passed
with increasing unsettling results. If you were the last one picked you
just knew it was because nobody else was left to choose.
Not a good feeling. Most people want to be part of
the “in” crowd. Jesus often taught us,
especially through parables, to consider those who
were not the first to be selected. We, however, want
to be special and treated as such. Jesus showed a different
way. He made a point to go to the marginalized, the
less fortunate, women, children, the sick and segregated
- the “outsiders”.
Announcing Your Disease
In Palestine 30 A.D. there were many classes. It’s
no different today. Back then the unfortunate afflicted
with disease like leprosy were forced to announce to
others their presence. “Unclean!” was the
cry. Can you imagine today having to do that? “Hello,
be warned, I have a disgusting, contagious illness!”
Jesus did not shy away from these people...

Resurrecting Easter
Easter Sunday — an empty tomb.
Grief, despair, loss...questions...wonder...awe! Think
about the many thoughts and emotions that must have raced
through the disciples' minds that morning and later that
day. Mary Magdalene was the first to see the resurrected
Christ. I think we sometimes forget the importance of
that honor. It was to her that Jesus gave the message
to tell the others that He is risen!
Is Christ alive in you? Easter is not just the end
of Lent and fasting. It's more than baskets and colored
eggs. It's even more than glorious sunrise worship
services. The story of the Cross includes resurrection
— Jesus rose from the dead. He's alive today!

DAILY THOUGHTS & REFLECTIONS |

Finish What You Started
The best thing you can do right now is to finish what
you started last year and not let those good intentions grow stale. Your heart's
been in the right place all along. You've got what it takes to finish it up,
so go to it.
(2 Corinthians 8:10-11, the Message)
What has God called you to do? What has God placed in your heart; what is
the deepest desire of your heart? What steps have you taken towards fulfilling
that call? Have you stalled in taking your place in the battle; become distracted
by the things and world around you?
Today Paul admonishes us to stay the course. Remember what you started, what
God called you to, what He placed in your heart and go do it. That calling
and plan were good; don’t let them die. You were made in God’s
image; you’ve been made a new creature when you entered into a personal
relationship with Jesus. The old person has been done away with and as a result
God has given you all that you need to accomplish what He has laid on your
heart. You have what it takes to do it. Otherwise He would not place it on
your heart and ask you to do it.
So what was that calling? What was that mission? Get focused and go do it.
Don’t worry about how, God will take care of that, just do it!

Prayer works. It really does. Only those who've never
truly tried it with the proper intentions would say otherwise. We want
