Opening Thoughts:

Greetings everyone and welcome to all our new subscribers.

In America the political season is in full swing. The presidential primaries and caucuses continue, including several yesterday. With this is mind I offer up a quote on government and public service from William Penn’s “Some Fruits of Solitude”, written in the 1600’s.

“Governments can never be administered well, except when those entrusted make it a matter of conscience to discharge their positions well.”

The public life, whether it is business, politics or entertainment, should reflect the Biblical principles we value. I just finished reading and reviewing a new book by David L. Steward, Doing Business by the Good Book. I recommend it.

Peace,

Tom Gilbert

A Really Rugged Cross
An Article About “The Passion of the Christ” Movie
by Tom Gilbert

I want to show the humanity of Christ as well as the divine aspect. It's a rendering that for me is very realistic and as close as possible to what I perceive the truth to be."
Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson has made a movie about the final 12 hours of the life of Jesus Christ. I’m sure by now you’ve heard of it. The Passion of the Christ is scheduled to open in 2,000 theaters on February 25, Ash Wednesday. It is extremely graphic and realistic. Filmed on location in Sassi of Matera, Italy (the same location used for Pasolini’s Gospel According to St. Matthew), there is great attention to detail, even to using only the native languages of the time: Latin and Aramaic. It was Gibson’s desire to show the film without subtitles, but he’s since been convinced to include them.

Maybe you’ve read some reviews, especially the kinds that come to you forwarded as emails from someone who has seen the movie. Advance screenings have been shown to a number of groups, particularly church groups, pastors and ministers. It’s been described as a masterpiece, an incredible achievement of filmmaking, and a spiritual experience.

Movies are a powerful medium. Film can be used for entertainment, for escape, and sometimes for transcendence. It is for the latter hope that The Passion of the Christ was made.

 DAILY THOUGHTS & REFLECTIONS
In the Cocoon

Now the Lord is Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17)

Butterflies are some of the coolest things in God’s creation. Their wings are like tiny works of art created in many different colors and patterns. Butterflies don’t have any special flight pattern like birds do. They just kind of do their own thing. They flutter and float along with total freedom.

But butterflies don’t start out so colorful and free. They start out as drab caterpillars crawling through the dirt. They spend a long time wrapped in a cocoon, where they grow and change.

So don’t be impatient if you sometimes feel as drab as a caterpillar. Remember, every butterfly starts out that way. Let God work in your life, and He will transform you into someone who is beautiful and free.

Live it Fierce

Pete
