Opening Thoughts:

The journey that each of us is on is essentially the same. This is true regardless of how our lives, background, past events and current circumstances differ. We are all striving to meet the daily challenges of living. If we can celebrate everything then no matter how tough things get we will embrace life. I’m not saying it’s easy. It is a different way of “seeing” the world around us.

As we share our journeys we grow together. There will be questions…and that’s good. This issue’s feature article deals precisely with that topic.

Eventually I hope to arrive at the noble goal Philip Yancey eloquently states in his latest book, Rumors of Another World: “The goal of contemplation is to see life as God sees it, a unity of two worlds and not a division. That encompasses both a lifetime of practice and rare, single flashes of revelation."

Peace and joy,

Tom Gilbert

Living in the Question
By Tom Gilbert

It is the most natural thing in the world to wonder and ask questions.

However, sometime between childhood and adolescence we begin to lose the wondering. We stop asking so many questions.

Could it be because the answers we’re given are insufficient? Do they ring hollow? Do those we ask get tired of replying to questions they are ill equipped to handle? In turn, do we simply stop asking so much because we’re not getting the answers we want?

Are these questions you sometimes ask yourself?

 IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Prison Ministries

There are more people incarcerated in the United States than ever before (over 2 million - more than most any other country).

The cost goes beyond the monetary expenses. There is a cost you can't measure in human lives. Few would argue the need for society to protect itself by imprisoning certain criminal offenders. But, we must not lose site of the great need to reach out to those behind bars, as well as their friends and families.

Prison ministry efforts can be powerful and require a real commitment and heart for others.

 DAILY THOUGHTS & REFLECTIONS
God Working in You

“It is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose” (Philippians 2:13).

God is the Sovereign Lord. We need to keep our lives God-centered because He in the One who is the Pace Setter. He is always the One to take the initiative to accomplish what He wants to do. When we are God-centered even our desires to do things that please God come from His initiative in our lives.

What often happens when we see God at work is we become self-centered, looking to tell God what we can do or how we will do it. We must re-orient our lives to God. We must learn to see things from His perspective. We must allow Him to develop His character in us. We must allow Him to reveal His thoughts to us. Only then can we get a proper perspective on life.

Live it with Passion

Quotable: Patience Revealed

Patience is not waiting passively until someone else does something. Patience asks us to live the moment to the fullest, to be completely present to the moment, to taste the here and now, to be where we are. When we are impatient, we try to get away from where we are. We behave as if the real thing will happen tomorrow, later, and somewhere else. Be patient and trust that the treasure you are looking for is hidden in the ground on which you stand.
