Opening Thoughts:
What do you hunger for? Is it meaningful work, a better
spiritual relationship with God and others or peace and comfort? Maybe
you just hunger for food.
We all have hunger. Some of it is a deep longing for fulfillment. We
all have a God sized hole that only the loving Creator can fill. Whatever
your hunger we hope you are fed by what you read here.
June 3 is National Hunger Awareness Day in the USA and
we have more info below in our In the Spotlight section.
Coming later in the month we’ll look at the issue of “Father Hunger”,
a term that describes not just a longing for God but for meaningful
relationships with our earthly fathers.

The
Spirit is the Helper

[editors note: One of the wonderful
mysteries of God is that God is relational. I personally
believe that God wants us to start by understanding this
revelation from the perspective of the Trinity - God revealed
as One in Three Persons. The Feast of Pentecost (May 30 this
year) is a powerful reminder of God's indwelling in us as
the Spirit and perhaps this previously written article will
be of interest to you. - TG]
Jesus asked the Father to
send us a helper, the Holy Spirit.
This Spirit of God, part of the divine
trinity – God in three persons – helps us by
revealing truth and giving us various gifts that assist
us in our lives and our faith. The Spirit is eternal,
and as such, has been active throughout time. At the
time of the creation of the world we are told that God's
Spirit moved over the surface of the waters . He has spoken through the prophets of the
Old Testament and he is active today in the lives of
Jesus' followers.
At the last supper Jesus consoled his apostles when he told them that despite
the coming suffering and death (both his own and that of his followers) that
he would send a helper . Jesus called him the Spirit of Truth,
the one who guides us into all the truth and glorifies both the Father and the
Son. It is crucial to all of us, that we recognize and accept this helper!

will serve as a platform for domestic hunger-relief organizations
to raise the level of awareness about the issue of hunger
in America and to publicize the work various agencies
and food banks do to battle the domestic hunger problem

Fathers and Festivals
Father’s Day is June 20th. The month of June
also kicks off the festival concert season. Some of the
popular Christian artists playing these shows include Mercy
Me, Audio Adrenaline, Relient
K, Steven Curtis Chapman, Third Day and David Crowder Band.
CCM Magazine has a pretty good festival guide here. Maybe
you can take Dad to a show!
It’s a sad truth that in many homes fathers are absent (for many
reasons). In our next issue we’ll look at the subject of “Father
Hunger”.
Ultimately we all need to find reconciliation and God is
the prodigal father eagerly watching and waiting for our
return.

Traveling God’s Road
I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run!-on
the road God called you to travel. I don't want any of you sitting around
on your hands. I don't want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes
nowhere. (Ephesians 4:1, the Message)
What has God called you to do? On what path does He want
you to run? Do you know or are you just doing time waiting for this life
to end so you can go to heaven?
When we entered into our personal relationship with God not only did
it come with the promise of going to heaven when we die but God promised
an abundant full life here as well. So often we get so focused on heaven
that we forget that we are to have a glorious filled life here too. God
made you for a purpose, He has something He wants you to do, a path for
your life here on earth. Seek Him, find out what it is, seek with your
heart, and then go after it with everything you have. Stop waiting for
time to pass; stop just hanging around. Get into the game and get into
life. You were created to be a participant not a spectator.
