Real
Men Are...Real
by Tom Gilbert
Just what does it mean to be a man, or more to the point, a Christian man?
Our society has often put an emphasis on being a “real” man. Unfortunately,
the version of “real” we are being peddled is all too-often a fantasy
compilation that is just as false for men as the perfect-body of the latest supermodel
is for women.
The “disconnect” is all the more pronounced for young men struggling
with their self-image. They look to culture, media, the “street” and
wherever they sense belonging to define their identity. Sadly, they rarely get
the acceptance or mentoring they need from home, school or even church.
The biggest challenge we all face, men and women, is to cut through all the smoke
and mirrors of self-delusion and Madison Avenue hype and discover reality. Just
being real may be the hardest thing of all.

Male Spirituality
What is "Men's work"? How
do men come to a real understanding and appreciation
of their spirituality in today's world? Furthermore,
can men discover a way that leads other men to true spiritual
growth?
These questions are top of mind to many men these days. The work being done in
this area is extremely important, especially in today's society. The previous
way of mentoring and initiation has been lost to our culture for a thousand years.
Over the next few weeks we will be examining the important issue of true male
spirituality.
Consider also the impact mentoring has on young people. We have some special
books on this featured right now.

DAILY THOUGHTS & REFLECTIONS |
|
Gift
of the Father
Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son
for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of
a fish will he? (Luke 11:1)
Pretend that you were the richest
person in the world. Now pretend that you fell in love
with someone who was very poor. Wouldn't you want to
meet that person's needs? Wouldn't you have a great time
giving that person really good things because of your
love? Of course you would.
That is how God feels about us. He owns everything
on earth all stuff is His. And He loves us totally.
So we don't have to worry about Him giving us what
we need. It makes him happy to provide for us. Maybe
it's not money we need. Maybe we need strength to get
through each day. Maybe we need the salvation of His
Son, Jesus Christ. Maybe we need healing or help with
a relationship. Whatever our need is, trust God to
provide for us.
