Bigmama
by Angie Ledbetter © 2003
No matter how many times I’ve tried, I just
can’t make biscuits from scratch like those my grandmother has
been making for eight decades. I know the ingredients needed and the
special cooking items to use, but success eludes me.
When I first started begging Bigmama to tell me her secrets, she
told me to watch her make them several times and then just try it
on my own while she stood over me. She didn’t use exact measurements,
but expertly added a glob of this, a glass of that, and a little blob
of the other. Without fail her biscuits always rose like obedient
little angels and sent the most mouthwatering aroma throughout her
pink kitchen. My batch came out of the oven as hardheaded, disobedient
lumps.
This experience was frustrating for a college-educated woman with
decent culinary skills of her own. How could my grandmother achieve
100 percent success and I zero? Obviously, I was in need of more training
and better observation skills. Once again, I traveled miles across
town to her house, determined to notice every detail of the biscuit
making process this time.

Mother’s Day and Stay-at-home Moms
With Mother’s Day just about here (May 11) be sure
to see what is featured at our online store. Some of
the best gifts are those that keep on giving by strengthening
our faith and lifting our hearts. A good book or music
can do this!
I know that often today it is a necessity for both
parents to work jobs outside the home. The sacrifice
made for one to stay home (and let’s face it,
when that can be done it is usually the mom) can be
huge. Be sure to check out the “Spotlight Link” for

| WHAT'S
NEW & COMING SOON |
|
May and June are great months to focus on parenting.
There are a lot of directions to go with this
and we’re still sorting it out. As
you can see this time we are celebrating
Motherhood. We also
plan to look at the importance of fathers, and
also mentoring. God has given us many lessons
in these
areas and often we forget to discover them. Hopefully
we will make some good discoveries these next few
weeks.
We have now added a feature to many of our article
pages to make them “Printer friendly”.
Just click on the link on those web pages and it
will open up a new browser window formatted for
printing.
Have you checked out “God
FAQ”? It’s
a new area on our site for frequently asked questions
of/about God. We don’t assume to have all the
answers or to know the mind of God who can? Yet, we
believe that God does work miraculously in people’s
lives. Many people have questions about God and we
will share one in each issue of this newsletter.
This time the question is “How do I talk to God?”
We have some thoughts on this.
See it online here.

DAILY THOUGHTS & REFLECTIONS |
|
Awesome
Moms
"Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all." (Proverbs 31:29)
I don’t know how that expression “the
weaker sex” ever got started. Women are stronger
than men. Oh, maybe not in bench pressing weights or
bone-jarring athletics (and even these areas might prompt
a challenge). But, they have the strength to bear children
and the inner strength to bear life’s frequent
pains. Jesus had a pretty strong mom in Mary.
I hope this doesn’t come off as sounding like
all “us guys” need to show better appreciation.
No, this is an inclusive invitation to everyone: men,
women and children. Honor all the mothers in your lives.
Mothers, daughter-moms, grammas and great-grandmothers…each
and every one of you are awesome!
In His Grace
