Opening Thoughts:
A couple of significant anniversaries are upon us.
All of us are aware that this Saturday makes three years since the September
11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington D.C. It’s
a day all of us remember and mourn. 9-11 was a wakeup call, but it is
also a reminder that we have no idea on any given day when our time on
Earth is done. This is why it is so important to be present to every
day – even every moment.
The second anniversary to mention is just that: our second anniversary. Yes,
Living the Solution has been online two years now. I am so grateful for each
of you on this journey, for your emails, for reading, sharing, wrestling with
ideas, and for choosing to live in the solution!
Peace and joy,
Tom Gilbert

How Many Times Must I Die?
By Tom Gilbert — September 2004
Here’s something you
don’t want to think about – dying.
Death is the natural outcome of life. Despite all we do to prolong our lives
it is inevitable. Sooner or later all of us will face death. Everyone dies. No
one knows for certain when death will come, but when we encounter it we are changed.
We are all touched by death. The resulting grief is real, traumatic and hard
to process. Just days ago a friend called to tell me his brother died of a drug
overdose. My daughter’s high school has had a few more suicides. Men, women
and children are dying in Iraq and Sudan. Nature is unleashing her fury with
hurricanes that barrel through Florida and have taken lives.
Everything dies. Not everything ends. Death is the doorway to new life. Of course,
the harsh reality of a life ending often obscures this view. When a loved one
passes we are shaken to our core. Our preoccupations with our agendas suddenly
seem small. We are stopped in our tracks. We face the Great Reality.
All of life is a journey towards death…and letting go.

DAILY THOUGHTS & REFLECTIONS |
|
Paths of Life
You have made known to me the paths
of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence (Acts 2:28).
When you wake up in the morning, what's
the first thing you think about? Are you excited about your
day, or are you rolling out of bed thinking, Oh boy, here
we go again?
If you dread going through another day, then you need an attitude change. God
wants you to be able to look at life as an adventure, not as a dead-end-street.
Even if it seems like you go through the same routine every day, you can still
wake up to the beauty of life. If you can begin to look at each day as an amazing,
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, then you will really begin to love life.
Each day is totally unique, filled with chances to love others, chances to hear
amazing things form God, chances to experience life. God wants you to look for
beautiful things about your life. They are there, even though you aren't noticing
them yet. Open your eyes and start to see life as an opportunity rather than
a dull routine.
Live it with Passion
